The Hongkong Prize is one of the world’s premier writing competitions, drawing thousands of applicants annually. Winners receive monetary prizes and are invited to an awards ceremony where their work can be presented, giving it international exposure and potentially leading to conferences or writing jobs for future candidates. Although the competition is open to writers from any background worldwide, it’s essential that they read over its rules and regulations carefully prior to entering an entry.

This prize was established to recognize those making an impactful difference in their fields and lives of others. Nominees include activists fighting for freedom and democracy – including those arrested or jailed as part of their campaigns – as well as young leaders using innovative solutions to create jobs and empower less privileged people. Alongside receiving the monetary prize, winners will also have access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities as well as seminars or internships at universities or laboratories across Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is home to a rich blend of Chinese and Western influences, which makes the city an ideal hub for global collaboration in science and technology. Home to an impressive pool of scientific talent as well as an established history of sharing knowledge worldwide, Hong Kong was created the hongkong prize to encourage and reward researchers working toward making Hong Kong an international hub for research and innovation.

winners of the Hongkong prize will be chosen in three waves: Southeast Asian residents, mainland Chinese applicants and finally international entrants. The HKAI symbol, found both on its logo and trophy, depicts two precious elements: a pearl and jade amulet that signify Hong Kong’s relationship to Asia and to the wider world.

As well as receiving a monetary prize, winners of the Hongkong Prize will gain access to Hong Kong’s premier laboratory facilities for six months as well as seminars and internships at universities and laboratories throughout Hong Kong. Sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited to encourage innovative research here, an independent review committee and compliance oversight team evaluate candidates based on scientific achievements, transformation efforts and social or economic value created.

At the 2023 ICAS Convention in Hong Kong, winners will be revealed. The first-runner up will receive a flight ticket; all other finalists can attend any ICAS Convention event held within their home countries free of charge; winners will be contacted shortly after being announced.
