The HK Prize and the HKFA

Over the last three years, HK Prize has helped promote talented students in Hong Kong while encouraging more people to study history. This award is open to postgraduate research students specializing in Hong Kong history; applicants must write and submit a research report to be evaluated by their department for evaluation before receiving an interview opportunity with prize money awarded on both criteria: relevance to theme/subject matter/objectivity of analysis & footnote references/citation.

Hong Kong Science Museum (HKScM) will present “2024: The Future Science Prize Exhibition” as a tribute to this year’s Prize winners and their accomplishments. Visitors are welcome to explore exhibits related to these prizewinners’ research while discovering scientific concepts and challenges they faced while creating discoveries of this magnitude.

HK Prize is a new competition that gives Hong Kong students the chance to win cash prizes and travel opportunities to the UK. Partner universities including Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will offer this prize. Prizes totalling over HK$200,000 will be distributed in March 2024. HK Prize provides students with an invaluable opportunity to enhance their research, teamwork and English language proficiency skills while improving English proficiency.

On Friday, it was revealed that gold medal-winning athletes at this year’s Paris Paralympic Games would receive four times more in prize money than they did at Tokyo Paralympics 2022. Each event’s top 10 will receive a minimum prize money award of HK$1.5 million while those placing sixth through eighth will get half. Furthermore, incentive awards have also been increased from $10k to 25k as an additional benefit of participation in these Games.

On the other hand, runners-up will receive HK$10,000 each, and those placing third to eighth will be given between HK$750,000 to HK$375,000 as compensation. In addition, runners who compete in multiple events are entitled to receive an incentive totaling HK$500,000.

The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) is an annual film award presented by the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild to honour Hong Kong-produced movies that meet certain criteria, such as having at least six members of their production crew reside in Hong Kong or being directed by someone born or resident in Hong Kong. To be eligible, films must include at least one registered company in Hong Kong as part of their production, with at least six being composed entirely by residents in the production crew itself.

The China Foundation Hong Kong (CFHK) has nominated five Hong Kongers for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize: Chow Hang-tung, Jimmy Lai, Lee Cheuk-yan, Gwyneth Ho and Joshua Wong.
