The HK Prize

The Hong Kong Prize (hk prize) is one of Asia’s premier awards, drawing thousands of applicants every year. It celebrates scientific research with global impact while encouraging young scientists to pursue careers in science. It provides its winner with both a substantial monetary award and access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities. Established by Professor Wang Gungwu as part of his advocacy for education – his generous donation was matched by the Government – the prize has become an inspiring source for students cultivating an interest in history while striving for academic excellence!

The awards are selected impartially without sponsorship or committee influence, honoring innovations across artificial intelligence/robotics, life/healthcare innovation, materials/energy innovation or advanced manufacturing/FinTech that create real social and economic value. Furthermore, outstanding individuals and teams who have made an exceptional effort are recognized with this prize which has drawn support from universities, researchers and innovative enterprises alike.

As such, the Hong Kong Prize has gained international renown as an award for science and technology innovation. Winners include leading scholars and experts from various fields who are then encouraged to continue pioneering exploration in Hong Kong while turning research findings into practical applications that benefit society as a whole.

Every year, the Hong Kong Film Academy holds an awards ceremony that draws representatives of its board and sponsors as well as industry leaders from different fields. There are performances by local artists as well as a gala dinner held during which winners receive their prizes and certificates from this annual gala dinner event. With 13 distinct film categories awarded monetary rewards to their best film each year, there is something special waiting for those attending!

At the awards ceremony, judges congratulated winners of various categories. They encouraged them to make an impactful difference in the world and inspire others towards excellence. Judges believe these individuals have demonstrated exceptional talent in their fields while contributing significantly to Hong Kong. Winning an HKFA Award is truly a humbling honor!

Alongside the main prize, there will also be ten runner-up awards given out for language arts and sports categories. The grand prize of HK$25,000 goes to the main winner; scholarship awards of HK$8,000 plus book coupons will go to each runner-up; language/arts category winners receive trophus awards while sports/music category runners-up each receive medals as awards for their efforts.

The Hong Kong Foreign Press Association also honors an emerging journalist working for less than one and one half years in Hong Kong’s media. This year’s recipient was China Daily writer Xi Tianqi who said the prize “reinforces my belief that writing is an art form which transcends words” as well as providing hope for journalism in Hong Kong; her coverage of an important case played an instrumental role in her being recognized.
