Sidney Taylor Book Award honors religious books which exemplify outstanding scholarship and promise in future work in religion. The recipient receives a cash prize of $3,500 plus an engraved plaque; additionally, each year the Book Award Committee compiles a list of “Notable Books,” or books not chosen as winners but that deserve widespread attention from readers.
The Sidney Award honors outstanding investigative journalism that exposes social and economic injustice. Each month from among a pool of nominees, winners are chosen and then assessed by a panel of judges before publication in Overland Magazine’s autumn issue – with two runners-up featured online as runners-up pieces alongside this publication.
Philip Sidney Ardern died in 1918. As an associate professor at Auckland University College and passionate scholar of English literature, Ardern established this award along with several others named after him. In addition to its main prize, multiple other awards were established in his memory as well.
Patrick Lenton and Claire Aman’s ‘Who Rattles the Night’ and ‘Golden Hour’ have been chosen as this year’s winners of the Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize, announced by Overland editors and judges, respectively. Overland editors and judges are proud to announce this year’s prize, which seeks stories up to 3,500 words long with travel themes as inspiration; first place winners receive $5000 while two runners-up will also be published both online and in Overland’s autumn edition as well as online publication.
Established in 2023 to honor physicists who use art, media, literature and science together in innovative ways. It was named in memory of Sidney Perkowitz (deceased), an esteemed American philosopher devoted to making connections between physics and other fields like humanities and arts.
As part of Sidney Hook’s lasting dedication to academic freedom, the National Association of Scholars bestows each year at our national conference the Sidney Gemant Prize. This award recognizes an individual for making significant contributions towards upholding the intellectual integrity of scholars and their works, funded through a grant from Sidney Hillman Foundation and administered by National Association of Scholars Foundation. Nominations for Excellence & Rigor Awards must be received by the last day of every month, either personally or nominating someone else’s work. Nominees can come from any discipline but must display dedication to excellence and rigor in their work. Submissions are evaluated based on scholarly excellence and relevance to our national community, using an anonymous selection process that is rigorous and transparent.
